TO ALL……….

TO ALL ACC/AAF/USAF NAVIGATORS:
GET YOUR BIOGRAPHY WITH PICTURES
IN THE ONLY DEFFINITIVE NAV-HISTORY
BOOK PUBLISHED. Join in this all-nav effort

Navigator History Program Update by Ron Barrett
www.afnoa.org & <ronaldpbarrett@yahoo.com>

We/AFNOA, the Air Force Navigators Observers
Association (now 25 years old), do mean to include any
and all types of navigators in our use of the term “navigator.”
Please emphasize this whenever you hear and/or meet one
of our cockpit comrades that trained, flew and or served as a
RO, RIO, EWO, WSO, DSO and now CSO.

Please pass the word to any and all that you know about AFNOA’s
program to reprint the navigator’s history book titled:
Air Force Navigators Observers. AFNOA originally published
this excellent 138 page, hard-bound, 9inchX12inch Nav-History
picture book in 1996. Time to update! While we are still here!

Turner Publishing told us that they would reprint (get the old
printing plates out) if we placed an order for MINIMUM of 150.
So we will approach this effort in stages. We will call this the SECOND
EDITION of the AIR FORCE NAVIGATORS OBSERVERS (AFNOHB)
history book by AFNOA. AFNOA will retain the copyright. Page count
we expect to go over 200 with many pictures.

The early predicted cost per book is estimated at $50 to $60, and will
be apx $5 to mail. I will keep you up to date on costs issues.

Side note: AFNOA is a 501.c.19 non-profit, so the asked-for-amount for
the book will be as a donation to AFNOA. We are seeking corporate
underwriting donations at this time to help control costs.

Dick Mansfield mailed out “Would you be interested?” post cards
December 15 to all dues paying members (apx 1,300). You should
respond to this question ASAP. YES or NO.

Note: NO MONEY donations at this point. We need to FIRST, determine
if we can at least get 150 commitments. If we can not get 150 firm commitments;
we drop this effort.

The 2nd Edition will be 100% a reprint of the 1st Edition with an added
on-the-back section of updated “NAV-Biographies” and an updated
“AFNOA Members NAV ROSTER, with KIA and Missing in Action”
listings. By adding on-as-back-pages, we do not have to reformat the
entire front-138 pages. Saves on all of that set-up costs. We just set-up,
print and glue in the new pages to the former well done front of the book.

Of interest is that all of you as AFNOA members can add your
personal biography to this great book. Please do it! It adds to our
collective Nav-History and give to all, historical details not possible
in any other way. There is no history book like this in existance. We
are that nav history and we are passing from the scene. Time is short.
Navs need to be members of AFNOA to get their biography added in
(pay dues $20 for one year). Ref. www.afnoa.org for membership form
or get ahold of Dick Mansfield at (352)854-3016 ; rhmans2542@cfl.rr.com

To place your-biography in the 2nd Edition of the AFNOHB, I will need you to
submit to me or Dick Mansfield, via any means possible your military bio.
E-mail is best ( ronaldpbarrett@yahoo.com ). Via digital file (Mac or PC) on
a floppy, a CD and or flash. I can read them all. Typed is OK and slows
us down and handwriten is hardest, but fully acceptable if you print clearly.

Please do not do cursive as it is often very hard to read correctly. You do
cursive and I will send you my old IBM! Chuckle. We will be happy to
get every ones Bio. Please send your Bio in.

If you do a Bio, you can add to it; one or two pictures. We can crop and edit the
pictures here as necessary. Make sure you PRINT your full name+address+Class
on the back. We are not going to limit your bio size because some members, like
Col. Ed Whitcomb, USAF Retired, from Coral Gables (Miami U/PanAM) class
ONE, CG-41-A have wonderfully long histories we all should get to know. Others,
like me not so much! Chuckle.

BIOGRAPHY SUBMISSION GUIDE LINES:
1. Full name, best address, e-mail, phone numbers
and social net addresses like MySpace and/or personal web site.
2. Training Class number, base name & location
3. Assignments and type of planes flown
4. Mission duties (navigator, radar nav, Interceptor Officer, etc)
along with typical tasks that you performed. Like shot celestial,
forcast weather, made coffee for sleepy pilots, etc)
5. Rank(s), military schools, significant assignment(s)
6. Interesting episode(s)

NOTE: We do not intend to edit except for spelling and/or glaring
errors like a mistyped date. These will be your words, your legacy.
No doubt AFNOHB will be one of the only, if not the last, and most comprehensive
statement about the USAF Navigators’ ever accomplished.

I think it will take about one year to fully compile & get all matters correct. Please
have your say. Open to any and all ideas how to improve this effort.
